The article is devoted to the problem of association of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with falls. The available results of clinical and epidemiological studies have shown that COPD occupies one of the leading places in the structure of diseases in elderly and senile patients.
The relevance of COPD as a nosology is its heterogeneity; i.e. its effects on many systems of the body distant from the lungs; COPD is accompanied by a wide range of functional limitations among them risks associated with the development of falls, which occupy a large portion. In addition, COPD in older people is often a component of polymorbidity pathology.
As a result, the elderly with COPD may have an increased risk of falls in comparison with their healthy peers.
This literature review is evident that further research is needed to determine the incidence of falls and specific risk factors of falls in older people with COPD.
Keywords: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, falls, elderly age.
