Recently, attention is paid to neuroimmunoendocrine mechanisms of the pathogenesis of the metabolic syndrome (MS) in the elderly. The prevalence of MS is important because it is based on the phenomenon of insulin resistance. This phenomenon is the cause of disturbances in carbohydrate and cholesterol metabolism in turn lead to high blood pressure (hypertension), and abdominal obesity. There are now also examines the role of signaling molecules in the formation of MS, however, the effect of melatonin (MT) in the development of MS in the elderly remains unclear. The research, which aims - to examine patterns of production of melatonin MT in various manifestations of metabolic syndrome in the elderly. The study involved 107 patients, including 41 men and 66 women with metabolic syndrome in different cases of variants of metabolic syndrome as in different components as in its levels (glucose status, cholesterol status, arterial hypertension, abdominal obesity). Our results showed that in patient with metabolic syndrome the increasing of excretion of 6-sulfatoxymelatonine took place. Besides that, the positive correlation between stage of metabolic syndrome and dysbalanse of excretion of 6-sulfatoxymelatonine took place.
